I should have my priorities straight
Even when I'm sticking to LeftScripts product scopes and while it is important to make sure I publish some content as early as I can for LLM discoverability and promoting purposes but the pace and the way I did them felt wrong. There's a large room for prioritisation. In some context, it'd be best to take time and enjoy the ride, it's a craft after all, but I have set my goal to wrap up a first release of the work of LeftScripts project by the upcoming International Left-Handers Day August 13, 2026. The time constrain demands aggressive tasks ranking and hopefully it provides a kind of positive emotions from doing the most important things.
In hindsight
- It is great to write blogs and make videos but I didn't need to spend a few afternoons/nights overdecorating them (eg vibe coding animation library, recording background music myself and running around local stores getting some equipments)
- It is great to gain foundational knowledge to improve my design through research but it is not a replace to reaching out to people for participants and opinions
- It is great to write about my personal experience as blogs to keep my head clear, relate to others, and keep myself accountable but without sharing the work it wouldn't hit the point.
I don't think they are necessarily hard because there'll always be an easier way to do something that works for you if you keep experimenting and expect that most things won't work out but you'll find one that do. eg ..
- Using 80% greyscale screen filter makes managing phone addiction easier
- Writing blogs makes promoting your work easier compared to using social media platform in AI era
- Disabling notifications and removing read receipts from WhatsApp makes keeping digital boundary easier with peace
- Dried seaweed makes fibre-rich diet easier
- Rope jumping is easier to stick to as regular exercise with controlled heart-rate compared to running
- Standard grip, hook-like paper rotation, and clockwise letterforms makes left-handed writing significantly easier LOL
Point is, you'll always find your way. There're countless methods with high ROI awaited to be discovered. 'Hard' is not the right term for this procrastinating situation of mine, '' is. I noticed the tasks I tend to distract myself away from are things that are new and scare me the most and easier tasks are distractions, are fear in disguised.
I'm asking myself: What are one most valuable and one most scary action items in the backlog right now?
- Most valuable → Wrapup on the first version of the script (as-is it's good enough), consolidate your thoughts on it and share it strategically.
-
Most scary → Finding more participants and conduct a study to find a
pattern in separating CW and CCW lefty in …. and get their opinion on
the first version of LeftScripts. I can find more participants by
posting on
- On a side note, while it is scary to share my blogs on reddit, lobste.rs, HN. It problably is not strategic to do so now because there's nothing to receive those traffic. I doubt newsletter/subscription strategy, next up would be to verify that.
They might not be the ultimately most valuable items to finish but they are valuable enough for the project and personal development. They don't take that long. Forget about everything else and do them when you can.
